White Dog – The boat
Our faithful and brave boat is a Moody 419 from 1985. An English classic – the so-called English gentleman’s yacht. We will not copy technical data, all interested parties are welcome to check those on www.sailboatdata.com
Our Moody, chosen from among millions, is a yacht with history. Its first owner was Hamish Haswell Smith, the author of the famous Scottish pilot book, until now one of the best sailing guides in those areas. Hamish developed it by sailing on our yacht, which was then called JANDARA, innocently named after the first letters of the wives of the four co-owners. It is also a Celtic term meaning – “second wife”, how convenient is that.
The last owner kept the name out of pure sense of humor. He was married to a Thai lady. At some point he learned that JANDARA is also, by coincidence, a title of a rather popular erotic film in Thailand. Even years later, he clearly enjoyed talking about the silence that was falling after mentioning the name of the boat during meetings with his wife’s family.
Jandara -> White Dog
Maybe we should have left the name, maybe not… Now it’s a closed case. Jandara has been changed to WhiteDog for reasons already described in the blog (now also below, on this page). Name change ritual was performed, shamanic dances danced. Now we just need to find a suitable deserted island to bury the tokens of the last name. We will provide details in due course but we will probably keep the place secret!
